Sandra Nan Hislop Lister (15th February 1952 - 14th July 2014)

RCC Hon. Secretary 2006 to 2011

Sandy died on the evening of the 14th July after a long and energetic fight against cancer. A few years ago she lost an eye to it but unfortunately it returned with some force during 2012.  By the time it was diagnosed it had spread and normal treatments were not thought practical. Sandy was a nurse and had no illusions as to the severity of the diagnosis. She was enrolled onto two different research programmes but neither succeeded in halting the disease though Sandy’s spirit did much to make up for their deficiencies.  Having been told in 2012 she would be lucky to see Christmas, she treated each day as a bonus, fitting in tennis, cinema trips, many walks and reading books galore as well as fitting in her many friends.  Her garden remained a pride and joy right up to the end and she reserved a day to work on it in the company of her gardener as long as she could.

Sandy was a member of Horning Sailing Club and became a regular crew of Hilary Franzen on Martlet (Cruiser 122).  She was a lovely out-going person and was often the life and soul of the party at various regattas.  She took her position as Hon. Secretary very seriously in the six years that she served the committee, always seeing herself as the representative of owners when they made submissions to the committee.

Everyone who knew Sandy will miss her vital presence. Her funeral will take place on Friday 25th July, 2:30pm at Greenacres, Colney. Following the ceremony and interment of ashes there will be a reception at Sandy’s home, 50 Intwood Road, Cringleford, Norwich NR4 6AA. Her sons James and Nicholas hope that you are able to attend.
They advise that this is a woodland site, so suggest appropriate footwear.

They request that you do not send floral tributes, but instead make a donation to Cancer Research UK either through justgiving.com/sandylister <http://justgiving.com/sandylister>  or by sending a cheque to Sandy’s home address made payable to "Cancer Research UK”, which they will forward on.
